A ground-breaking collaboration between Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and Commend International is set to revolutionize safety measures in cities. By integrating advanced noise level measurement technology, cities can now quickly recognize and respond to potential threats to ensure rapid assistance in critical situations. Traditional security measures often rely solely on video surveillance, resulting in both privacy concerns and limited situational awareness. Commend has recognized this gap and partnered with Salzburg University of Applied Sciences to develop a new approach. As part of this partnership, sophisticated systems for measuring noise levels will be strategically installed in urban areas. These systems can distinguish between normal urban noise and unusual disturbances such as traffic accidents or unexpected social unrest. If anomalies are detected, the system displays the location at the control center and triggers an alarm . This allows security forces to selectively activate video surveillance when necessary to gain real-time situational awareness without constantly violating citizens' privacy. The collaboration goes beyond technological innovation and promotes valuable hands-on experience for students at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. Improving Communication |for Crisis Situations
Commend's case study for the Gioia 22 building in Milan, Italy, shows the implementation of a comprehensive communication and security system aimed at improving safety and operational efficiency. The system was realized and commissioned by Commend Italia in 2021. The building is part of the new development of Porta Nuova Garibaldi, and thus included the installation of a highly advanced Advanced Security Building Intercom solution to manage service and emergency communications within the skyscraper.

The New Symphony Control Desk: A Leap Towards Modernisation and Cyber Security

But why should you consider upgrading to the new Symphony Control Desk in the first place? The answer is simple: it enables your operators to handle calls more efficiently. Our Symphony control desks bring a significant upgrade in functionality, offering enhanced user-friendliness for control center staff. Among its many capabilities is the ability to manage varying call requests through 10 programmable call queues , allowing operators to swiftly address crises with device-based queue subscriptions. It allows you to define five call priorities , which help differentiate between e.g. life-threatening situations, informational inquiries, and technical issues, ensuring urgent calls are prioritized appropriately. Additionally, the Symphony Control Desk allows rapid call forwarding to another queue when multiple calls arrive at the same time, improving response efficiency. If a higher-priority call comes in while an operator is busy, they can park the current call in the queue for a colleague to handle or retrieve it later. Integrating Symphony’s call management system with a traditional control desk offers a powerful combination of modern and legacy features, boosting operational efficiency. An additional feature is that operators can now connect to multiple call queues simultaneously . For example, a parking lot operator managing garages in different cities—such as Salzburg, Vienna, and Graz—no longer needs to manually select which location’s calls to receive. Instead, they can connect to one, two, or all three queues at the same time, greatly improving response times and call management efficiency. So what does it mean for you? Being able to receive calls from classic intercom stations at your Symphony Control Desk ensures that control rooms can access Symphony’s user-friendly functions without needing to replace every intercom station in the system. Moreover, the Symphony Control Desk is the first of its kind to provide a cyber-secure solution, allowing organizations to maintain high security standards without overhauling their entire existing infrastructure.
